Sycamera: Minox 1949-

If the Second World War defined the VEF Minox as the ultimate spy camera, the Iron Curtain was the backdrop to the use of the Minox professionally in the Cold War from 1949-1991. From aerial reconaissance to document copying, the Minox became the trusted spy camera in popular use.

In the US, Minox USA played up to the unofficial association of the camera at high-profile espionage cases by a Soviet-style press advert in the 1980's Even by the 1990's we know there was a large cache of Russian made Minox cassettes and Minox films still in circulation.

As cameras got easier to use and results indoors and out, wealthy amateurs startred to invest in the cameras This is, indeed, how GR Hobbis started in 1969. The typical customer profile for Minox photographers is: successful, professional (medical, engineers, scientists) and of course professionals.  Television and Films also provided MINOX product placement in the USA and even UK TV Series.
